Spiritual Offerings for Election Day

Dear Friends,

How might we stay grounded and connected to our deepest wisdom on election day?

Here are three ideas:

1. Offer Ceremony and Prayer.  I love this passage from Charles Eisenstein's essay

Indigenous ceremonialists and shamans who communicate with other-than-human beings to protect land and water and keep the earth in balance. A few months ago I spoke with a shaman from Ecuador who described how an oil prospecting company was set to move into his tribe’s territory. The bulldozers and everything were ready to go. So he communicated with the spirit of the petroleum and asked it to intercede. “OK, give me three days,” it said. Three days later the contract was canceled and the machines were removed. The company had run into sudden unexpected legal issues.

I'll be in the forest with spiritual friends offering ceremony for most of today, praying for the transformation and evolution of our out-lived capitalist system to a life-sustaining and equitable system, one that is based on compassion, generosity, beauty, and interbeing.

2. Reach Out to Heal Our Division. I sent this letter to my family yesterday, and it has been deeply healing. I have already received beautiful, positive responses from my conservative, Republican family members. Feel free to copy any of it for your use.

3. Loving Kindness Meditation.  May you be guided by this deep and ancient practice, and offer it to all Beings: Lovingkindness Meditation by Joanna Macy.

With deep bows,

Rev. Steve Palmisano
