Fall Study Intensive

  • Santa Cruz Zen Center 113 School Street Santa Cruz, CA 95060 United States (map)

Classes will be held on four Sunday mornings 10-11:30 am
October 22, November 5, November 12, and November 19

To honor Keizan Jokin's 700 years of influence on Soto Zen practice, we will study some of his seminal teachings. Keizan was responsible for expanding Soto Zen throughout Japan, particularly welcoming the Zen practice of women and lay people. He made it clear that our practice was profoundly relevant to the reality of our daily lives, and was not just a practice confined to the monasteries.

We will look at his very moving essay on meditation, Zazen Yojinki. We will also study some of his commentaries on the Transmission of the Lamp.
