We will be studying each koan for three weeks, beginning with Case 45 in the Blue Cliff Record "Chao-Chou's Seven-Pound Cloth Shirt."

It is not necessary to have a copy of the book, but it is a good addition as we often discuss aspects of the commentary. You can also find it online and print out the commentary as we go along.

A monk asked Chao-chou, "The myriad things return to one. Where does the one return to?"

Chou said, "When I was in Ch'ing Chou I made a cloth shirt. It weighed seven pounds."
