A study discussion group based on the book by Larry Yang, led by Val Miranda, with Rev. Cathy Toldi."A dharma book that is a road map showing the collective pathways out of social suffering, embracing the pain of oppression and inequity as integral to the ground of compassion and spiritual practice." (3rd meeting)
Cathy Toldi has been practicing Zen at Warm Jewel Temple since 1987. The primary focus of Cathy's study and practice is integrating Zen into the relational realm. This includes attending to how we express wisdom, compassion and intimacy in our interpersonal and group interactions, as well as receiving guidance from Great Nature, the other-than-human realm.
“Awakening Together combines the intimately personal, the Buddhist and universal into a loving, courageous, important work that will benefit all who read it. For anyone who longs to collaborate and create a just and inclusive community, Larry provides a brilliant guidebook.”
—Jack Kornfield, author of A Path With Heart
How can we connect our personal spiritual journeys with the larger course of our shared human experience? How do we compassionately and wisely navigate belonging and exclusion in our own hearts? And how can we embrace diverse identities and experiences within our spiritual communities, building sanghas that make good on the promise of liberation for everyone?
