The Leadership Of The Santa Cruz Zen Center
Board of Trustees
The Board, currently consisting of ten representatives elected by the Zen Center membership, meets monthly to establish long-term strategies and organizational goals, assures fiscal responsibility, conducts the annual appeal, conducts evaluation of leadership positions, may release from service any leaders due to extraordinary circumstances (consistent with SCZC Bylaws and Ethics Statement), oversees grievance proceedings and supports conflict resolution if the need arises.
Three Leaders
The Head Teacher, Administrator, and Global Sangha Leader meet monthly to discuss the ongoing practice issues at Zen Center and report new proposals to the Board.
Practice Committee
The Practice Committee, consisting of the three leaders plus the inos and other active senior members, meets monthly to discuss the logistics of daily and monthly practice events, forms and ceremonies, staffing, etc., bringing larger topics to the Board for discussion.
Zen Center Operations Group
ZCOG, consisting of the Administrator, Work Leaders, and others, meets every other month to discuss and plan new projects and upkeep on the Zen Center buildings, gardens, and grounds, which includes the property on 113, 115, and 119 School Street. This encompasses the zendo, dokusan room, office, toilets, community room, library, and kitchen, as well as the living quarters of five people.
